Starlink, Web1 may come to Pakistan as national policy gets nod

Caretaker Minister for IT Dr Umar Saif said on Friday that they have successfully implemented various key initiatives, such as routing freelancers’ remittances through third parties with PayPal’s assistance and enabling private companies to utilize low-orbit satellites for swift internet services.

The minister further mentioned that following the cabinet’s approval of the National Space Policy, the minutes were released, allowing different private sector companies to use low-orbit satellites. As a result of this development, companies like Starlink and Web1 may enter Pakistan, contingent upon contributing six percent to research and development (R&D). All international companies, including Starlink, will be permitted to launch satellite communication services in Pakistan after obtaining a no-objection certificate from the defence ministry.
