Acknowledging the significance of their contributions, the Zaidong Ambassador expressed gratitude for PM Kakar’s active participation in the BRI International Cooperation’s 3rd Head of States Forum. His remarks underscored the shared commitment and joint efforts of both nations, as well as the coordinated role of the military institutions alongside the government, fostering a flourishing partnership that has propelled the CPEC to new heights.
President Xi Jinping announced eight phases to ensure BRI’s high-quality completion. The next phase, according to Zaidong, would witness the close implementation of BRI along with Pakistan and other countries. The Chinese ambassador’s confidence in
Pakistan’s significant efforts in the implementation of BRI-CPEC projects underscored the continuous dedication of military leadership alongside the establishment of SIFC.
CPEC is an epitome project of BRI infrastructure development. Since its inception in Pakistan, a total of $25.4 billion has been invested directly. The initiative has generated 236,000 fresh employment opportunities, constructed 886 kilometers of national power distribution networks, developed 510 kilometers of high-speed highways, and augmented the energy capacity by an extra 8,000 MW. It is crucial to acknowledge that the unwavering dedication of the military leadership instills an extra level of confidence in the successful completion of CPEC.
An essential prerequisite for attracting international investors is the presence of a favorable business environment. The dedication of government institutions, along with military leadership, to tackle regulatory issues, facilitate business operations, and establish robust policy frameworks guarantees a conducive atmosphere for corporate endeavors and the sustained success of CPEC. The steadfast commitment of the military leadership guarantees a heightened sense of confidence, safeguarding the ongoing prosperity of CPEC and its beneficial influence on Pakistan’s economy.
CPEC has ensured the economic and social development of Pakistan, as well as the welfare of the general public, through the contribution of numerous flagship projects. The aforementioned initiatives comprised electricity generation, ceramics, the orange train, the Faqeer School in Gwadar, and export and agricultural/dairy production agreements.
The SIFC’s implementation, which unites a variety of stakeholders, including businesses, trade associations, lawmakers, administrators, and civil-military partners, serves as an example of these advancements. By using its communication networks and infrastructure to draw in foreign direct investment (FDI), the SIFC serves as an extension of CPEC.
Ambassador Zaidong emphasized the dedication to maintaining the superior standard of CPEC and declared the commencement of its subsequent stage. He emphasized that the main objective is to guarantee advancement, societal well-being, innovation, an ecologically sustainable environment, and transparency, with a resolute dedication from Pakistan to achieve these pursuits.
He emphasized that China is primarily keen on Pakistan’s public welfare, committing to provide financial aid and support to help Pakistan boost its agricultural product exports to China, thereby directly benefiting Pakistani farmers.
It is important to note that the SIFC intends to dedicate $60 billion to Pakistan’s agriculture industry over the next five years. The objective is to modernize the sector by introducing advanced farming techniques, innovative technology, and improved irrigation infrastructure. Pakistan’s exports are anticipated to grow in several sectors through partnerships with nations including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, China, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. The military institution’s direct participation in initiatives like the SIFC demonstrates its dedication to fostering economic growth.
Furthermore, the Chinese ambassador conveyed a commitment to ensuring the year-round accessibility of the Khunjrab pass to enhance interpersonal connections. Enhancing the capability of CPEC, which includes making upgrades to the ML1 project, is also a priority. CPEC has facilitated cultural exchange and promoted improved interpersonal relations between Pakistan and China. Education and cultural collaboration play a vital role in fostering mutual trust and respect, as well as enhancing bilateral relations.
Significantly, the NLC and the Pakistani government made the Khunjerab Pass possible, which removes a significant barrier to trade between Pakistan and China year-round. This breakthrough demonstrates Pakistan’s role in strengthening regional economic ties.
In addition, he conveyed his plans to undertake the reconfiguration of the Karakoram highway and the establishment of special economic zones in Pakistan. The development of Gwadar port continues to be a central focus, demonstrating China’s comprehensive strategy for promoting connectivity and economic expansion in the region. The indispensable contribution of the military to securing these strategic projects is undeniable.
Nevertheless, several challenges stand in the way of CPEC’s development, with security issues being the most significant. The corridor’s long-term viability relies on maintaining a secure and steady environment, which requires continuous cooperation between China and Pakistan to address any potential hazards. The Pakistani and Chinese governments recognize the pivotal role of the military in safeguarding the security of CPEC projects and consider it an indispensable partner in this regard. The military leadership is unwaveringly dedicated to ensuring the success of CPEC through the implementation of vital security measures.
